Significant Drop in Overdose Deaths - Highlighting the Important Work by the JSO Narcotics Unit
On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Duval County Sheriff T.K. Waters shared some of the important work the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Narcotics Unit does every day. This includes a significant drop in overdose cases (472 in 2022 compared to 221 in 2025). This, in part, is
thanks to the Narcotics Unit’s relentless fight to get poison off the streets of Jacksonville. This year alone, detectives have seized approximately 28 kilograms of fentanyl (enough for potentially 14 million fatal doses).
More than 800 people have been arrested in narcotics investigations this year. Seventeen people are facing manslaughter charges for their role in overdose deaths in the Jacksonville community (see photo).
To report drug activity or suspicious activity, citizens are asked to call JSO's non-emergency line at
904.630.0500, email
JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org or call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS to report anonymously.
