Arthur Virgil, 68, is facing a long list of burglary charges after he broke into more than a dozen businesses across Jacksonville.
The investigation began last month when District 1 patrol officers responded to a burglary in San Marco. As detectives investigated, they continued to receive reports of similar break-ins at family-owned spots across the city. The suspect, later identified as Virgil, would smash the front window of the business, steal the cash box, and take off.
Detective Higbee used every investigative technique available to him, looking to stop the man before more cash could be taken from these families. He eventually connected the string of burglaries to Virgil using surveillance footage from some of the businesses impacted.
On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, officers responded to a local restaurant that Virgil had just burglarized. Detectives knew he wasn’t far away from the restaurant. They found his vehicle and stopped him. During that traffic stop, detectives spotted the restaurant’s cash box.
Virgil was arrested that morning. Virgil had served time in the past for committing similar “smash-and-grab” style burglaries.
This continues to be an active investigation as detectives continue to confirm Virgil’s possible involvement in other cases. Anyone with any information is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904.630.0500 or email
