Melvyn Souffrount, 62, is facing a manslaughter charge for his role in a dog attack that left a man dead in 2024.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 31, 2024, District 4 patrol officers responded to a call on Ricker Road. Upon arrival, they located 59-year-old Ronald Coffman who was suffering from multiple dog bites. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded to the scene. Coffman died from his injuries.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Detectives, Crime Scene Unit Detectives and the State Attorney’s Office began reviewing all available evidence and interviewing witnesses. Following a lengthy investigation, it was determined that Souffrount’s multiple and repeated negligent actions and failure to act, led to the victim’s death.
On Monday, May 18, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Manslaughter. Later that evening, Souffrount was booked into the Duval County jail where he remains behind bars.
