A 19-month-old baby was safely returned to their mother after a suspect stole a running car from a parking lot.
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, District 4 patrol officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle with a 19-month-old child inside. The mother had briefly left the car running while she went into a store. The suspect jumped into the vehicle and drove away.
Officers quickly worked together to identify the suspect and locate the stolen vehicle less than 20 minutes later. The child was not inside the car when officers found it.
Witnesses called for emergency services and reported seeing the suspect forcibly remove the child from the vehicle shortly after the theft. Officers soon located the baby at a nearby store and reunited the child with their mother.
Micah Simmons, 22, is now facing charges including Battery and Grand Theft Auto.
