Matthew Piner, 39, is behind bars in Texas after he made threats which prompted four Duval County Public Schools to go under a lockout.
On social media, Piner posted, “Anyone possessing or keeping [his child] from me is to be shot on sight…” Piner’s child is a student at one of Jacksonville’s schools. He does not have custody of the child.
JSO's investigation showed Piner was driving to Jacksonville, Florida from California with a gun on Monday. This led the Duval County Public Schools to place four schools on a lockout out of an abundance of caution.
On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Piner after he was located in Texas.
JSO detectives worked closely with Duval County School Police and FBI Jacksonville on this case.
