Operation Checkmate: 33-Year-old Arrested for Soliciting "Teen Boy" for Sex Online
Landon Cross, 33, was arrested earlier this month after he used an online platform to solicit who he thought was a teenage boy for sex during "Operation Checkmate," a multi-day operation targeting those using the internet to solicit children for sex.
The "teen boy" he was chatting with was actually a highly trained undercover detective. Cross did not travel to meet the boy, but he still committed a crime by soliciting sex from him, even after the "teen boy" revealed his age.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) detectives continued to investigate and received a warrant for his arrest after the operation ended.
On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Task Force picked Cross up from his apartment on the Southside.
With Cross' arrest, 32 men are now facing serious charges for their predatory behavior. They come from all different walks of life. Six men we arrested are in the country illegally. Three had been arrested for similar crimes in the past.
Anyone who suspects someone is trying to lure a child online is asked to notify the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by calling
1.800.THE.LOST.
