Operation Braking News: 22 Arrested at Illegal Car Meetups Last Weekend
June 30, 2026
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) partnered with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) for "Operation Braking News," a targeted effort to crack down on illegal street racing and reckless driving at unpermitted car meetups across Jacksonville.
While some come to admire the cars, these events too often end in criminally reckless, street racing, and other illegal activity.

After learning about these planned meetups, JSO immediately acted, deploying dozens of officers to stop them before they escalated.

The results:
  • 22 arrests (felony and misdemeanor)
  • 28 traffic citations
  • 7 vehicles seized
  • 4 firearms recovered
With 100 traffic fatalities on Duval County roads already this year, the message is simple: Drive safe, Duval.

Anyone who wants to host a car show, is encouraged to get a permit, make a safety plan, and stay within the law.
