Woman Behind Bars Following Deadly Weekend Shooting

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, District 1 patrol officers responded to Calvert Street near Norwood Avenue for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 40-year-old Robert Miller laying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, Miller passed away from his injuries.


Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit and Crime Scene detectives began an investigation. After looking at all available evidence and interviewing witnesses, Kala Murrell, 36, was identified as the suspect. Patrol officers detained her near the scene shortly after the shooting.

Murrell has been arrested for Murder and Tampering with Evidence.
