Around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) patrol officers responded to a dispute on Manotak Avenue on the Westside. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple blunt force injuries. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue
Department (JFRD) personnel arrived, but the victim passed away. Investigators identified the man as 41-year-old Waduta Woodley.
JSO Homicide and Crime Scene Unit detectives, along with the State Attorney’s Office, began investigating immediately. After reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses, detectives identified 21-year-old Journee McGrew as the suspect.
Officers arrested McGrew later that day and booked her into the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility (Duval County Jail) for Second Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence.
