Two men are facing a murder charge after they shot and killed a man on Christmas Eve last year.
On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, District 1 patrol officers responded to a shooting on St. Augustine Road near Emerson Street. When the officers arrived, they found 55-year-old Kenneth Lockhart with multiple gunshot wounds. He sadly passed away before he could receive medical attention.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit detectives immediately began investigating. Nearby surveillance footage showed Lockhart in an argument with two men. The surveillance footage shows the two men shooting Lockhart multiple times before running away.
Detectives quickly identified one of the men in the video as 38-year-old Amen Mathis. Mathis was arrested early Christmas morning.
Detectives continued to investigate and identified the second suspect as 60-year-old Gregory Woods. On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Task Force located Woods and he was arrested.
Woods and Mathis are both facing a murder charge and are being held at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility (Duval County jail).
