A 47-year-old man is now behind bars in Jacksonville after he sexually battered and killed a woman earlier this year.
On January 23, 2026, District 3 patrol officers were asked to do a welfare check at an apartment on Sunbeam Road off San Jose Boulevard. When they entered the apartment, they found a woman who had been attacked. She passed away at the home.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit detectives began an investigation. Using all available evidence, detectives identified Raymond Jackson, Jr. as the suspect.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) took Jackson into custody just a few days later, after Jackson led officers and NCSO deputies on a chase.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Jackson was indicted for Murder, Sexual Battery, and Burglary with Assault or Battery. He was transported from the Florida Department of Corrections to the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility (Duval County jail) on Monday, June 29, and arrested on those charges the next day.
