Halloween Safety Tips from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

Halloween is two weeks away and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reminds you to take some simple precautions to help you enjoy the holiday.
Safety First
  • Check reliable websites, such as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to see where registered offenders / predators live.
  • Parents or trusted adults should accompany children and youth during trick-or-treating
Drivers
  • Slow down and be on alert while driving through residential neighborhoods
  • Adults going to a party - Make a plan, have a designated driver
For Great Visibility
  • Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags
  • Carry a flashlight while out trick-or-treating
Trick-or-Treaters
  • Stay in a group
  • Only trick-or-treat at homes that have a porch light on
  • Do not go into a stranger's home or get in their car
After Trick-or-Treating
  • Examine candy to make sure it has not been tampered with
  • Keep your pets safe - place candy, especially chocolate, out of reach or smell
