Corrections Officer Obbie Johnson was on shift at the Community Transition Center when an inmate alerted him: a woman had jumped off a bridge into the water. Corrections Officer Johnson rushed to the pond and found the woman floating face down. Corrections Officer Johnson didn’t
hesitate; he jumped in, pulled her out, and started CPR.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded and took over, taking the woman to an area hospital.
Thanks to Corrections Officer Johnson's quick response the woman survived.
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Sheriff T.K. Waters recognized Corrections Officer Johnson's actions that day by presenting him with JSO's
Corrections Officer of the Month award and a
Lifesaving Medal.
