Child Wanders Off to Chick-fil-A, Officers Help Get Him Home
September 03, 2025
Earlier this summer, two Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) District 3 patrol officers got a unique call: a 5-year-old had wandered into the Chick-fil-A on San Jose Boulevard all by himself. When they responded, Officers Kelly and Perri found little William happily enjoying
breakfast and lots of attention from the staff.

After some detective work (and a ride in a police car), William pointed out his home. However, the gate was locked, and while William squeezed through earlier, the officers couldn’t. So, Officer Perri climbed over the fence to knock on the door. His parents were suprised when they learned about their son’s morning adventure!

A few weeks later, the family reunited with the officers at the same Chick-fil-A where this story began.

To be clear: William’s parents are not in any trouble. They had several safety measures in place. But this is a good reminder to teach kids their home address, parents’ names, and a phone number. It could make a big difference in an emergency.

The members of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office extend a thank-you to the Chick-fil-A employees who immediately called for police services and kept William safe until officers arrived.
