A father and son are facing criminal charges after they killed one person and injured three others in a road rage shooting in September of last year.
On Thursday, September 18, 2025, District 1 patrol officers received a call there had been a shooting on I-10 East near I-95 North. When officers arrived, they found four people with gunshot wounds inside an SUV. Three people survived their injuries, but the fourth, 26-year-old Toby Robinson, passed away from his injuries. A three-year-old was also in the car, but the child was not hurt.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit responded to the scene and began an investigation. During that initial investigation, the only information detectives could gather was the shooting may have been a road rage incident and the gunman was in a black vehicle.
For nine months, detectives worked tirelessly to identify the shooter. Using every investigative tool available to them, detectives were able to identify 43-year-old Leonard Bryant Senior as the gunman. Detectives continued to investigate and determined Bryant’s 22-year-old son, Leonard Bryant Junior, was an accessory to the murder and tampered with evidence.
Bryant Junior was arrested on December 17, 2025, for his role in the shooting.
On Friday, June 19, 2026, JSO's SWAT team found Bryant Senior and took him into custody. He was arrested for Robinson’s murder and four counts of attempted murder, one count for each of the other four people in the vehicle.
