Four Suspects in Country Illegally Arrested for Killing Teen at Park on Barnes Road
Four people, including three teenagers, are in custody in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old at a Southside park last month. All four suspects were in the country illegally.
On Thursday, July 16, 2026, District 3 patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at Jacksonville Drew Park off Barnes Road. When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Marvin Oporta Garcia with multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, Oporta Garcia died from his injuries before he could receive medical treatment. Oporta Garcia was a legal refugee in the United States.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit detectives immediately began investigating the case. Through their investigative work, detectives identified four suspects in connection with Oporta Garcia’s killing: 16-year-old Jose Hernandez Bermudez, 17-year-old Kleber Martinez, 18-year-old Daniel Ramirez Mato, and 21-year-old Russell Oliva Reyes.
Investigators discovered all four suspects are in the United States without legal immigration status. Martinez and Oliva Reyes are from Honduras, Ramirez Mato is from Cuba, and Hernandez Bermudez is from Nicaragua.
On Saturday, August 15, 2026, Hernandez Bermudez, Martinez, and Ramirez Mato were arrested. The following day, Oliva Reyes was arrested. Detectives contacted federal authorities as well.
