Three Men Arrested for Man's Death in December Double Shooting

Da-Vonne Mitchell, 26, is behind bars after he shot two men, killing one of them and injuring the other. Two other men are also facing charges in this shooting.


On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, District 5 patrol officers responded to a parking lot on Edgewood Avenue North after reports that someone had been shot. When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds. Rescue took the men to the hospital, but 49-year-old Cory Denmark passed away from his injuries. The other man survived.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Homicide Unit detectives launched an investigation. After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the scene, detectives identified Mitchell as the gunman. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Mitchell was arrested for Denmark’s murder.

Detectives also identified 29-year-old Tyquan Thompson and 26-year-old Anthony Brooks Jr. and arrested them for Accessory to Murder After the Fact this week.
