Officer-Involved Shooting on Jacksonville's Northside
October 11, 2026
Sheriff T.K. Waters and Undersheriff Mark Romano shared details about an officer-involved shooting that happened on Biscayne Boulevard near Mar Vic Lane on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th, JSO received a call about a black woman who was waving a gun in the area of Monaco Drive near Beckner Avenue. She was said to be wearing all purple. Our officers could not find her at that time. About an hour later, officers were dispatched to Briarcliff Road East near Dunn Avenue on a report that a black woman wearing purple had pointed a gun at a complainant and their dog. Again, our officers were not able to locate the woman.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 11th, officers were dispatched to Mar Vic Lane and Dunn Avenue. During that call, it was reported a black woman had pointed a gun at a man. When they arrived on scene, they made contact with the woman and quickly determined she was the person they were looking for the day prior. The woman yelled at the officers, and reached into several bags she’d been carrying in her hands. They asked her multiple times to show her hands. She repeatedly ignored their commands and kept walking away from the officers. They followed her for a quarter of a mile, giving her commands the entire time. She did not listen. At one point, an officer said, “I believe she has a gun.” When the woman and officers got to Mar Vic Lane and Biscayne Boulevard, she pulled a gun out of her bag and fired one time. A police vehicle was struck in the driver’s side door. Three JSO officers returned fire, striking the woman. She died at the scene.

The woman's name was not released during the stand-up at the scene as next of kin notification was pending.

Due to Marsy’s Law, the officers' names are not being released at this time.

This is the 15th officer-involved shooting for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) this year. The State Attorney’s Office is on scene conducting an independent investigation. Once that investigation is completed, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own investigation into the use of force.

Information, as it becomes available regarding this Officer-Involved Shooting, will be posted on JSO's Transparency page.
