A couple is facing felony charges after they planned to sell a kilogram of cocaine here in Jacksonville. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Narcotics Unit detectives busted them before they could make the sale.
JSO's Narcotics Unit Major Case Section launched a long-term investigation into 38-year-old Harry Cruz-Gonzalez and 34-year-old Maria Pena-Rosario on suspicion the two were trafficking cocaine into the Jacksonville community. On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, detectives received information that the two were traveling from central Florida to Jacksonville with a kilogram of cocaine to sell.
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, JSO Narcotics Unit detectives stopped the couple at a hotel in the Southpoint area. When detectives searched their car they found the kilogram of cocaine hidden in a trap built into the vehicle. Additionally, more than $2,300 in cash was also found.
Detectives arrested both Cruz-Gonzalez and Pena-Rosario for Trafficking in Cocaine. Cruz-Gonzalez was also arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Resisting Without Violence.
