Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Sheriff T.K. Waters and Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey shared details about an officer-involved shooting. This happened on Julington Creek Road, near Sand Ridge Drive.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, JSO officers were called to Susie Street, just off Old Middleburg Road North, where they found a man and woman who had been shot. The woman died from her injuries. A person of interest was developed. Detectives, intending to arrest the person of interest on an outstanding theft warrant, tracked him to Julington Creek Road around 1 p.m., where they tried to block his vehicle. The suspect pointed a gun at officers and fired at least once. Five officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
The suspect’s name was not released during the stand-up at the scene as next of kin notification was pending.
The officers who fired shots are Sergeant Eleftheriadis, Detective Prescott, Detective Whitmar, Detective Walling-Millanes, and K9 Officer Mulhearn. No officers were injured.
This is the seventh officer-involved shooting this year for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The State Attorney’s Office is on scene, completing its investigation. Once its investigation is complete, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own investigation.
