Shots Fired at Officers on East 28th Street in Jacksonville; No Officers Injured
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Commander of Specialized Investigations Jordan Dowling shared details about a shooting that happened on Monday, March 16, 2026, after a suspect fired multiple shots at JSO officers.
Around 10:55 p.m. Monday night, officers attempted to stop a vehicle in a traffic stop at the intersection of East 26th Street and Haines Street in the Talleyrand area. Instead of stopping for the officers, at least two suspects exited the vehicle and took off running. The officers ran after them, and the foot chase continued to East 28th Street.
While on East 28th Street, officers were shot at multiple times by a suspect inside a home. Thankfully, nobody was hit by the gunfire. The officers did not return fire.
The officers surrounded the house and commanded the people inside the home to exit. They complied and were taken into custody.
One of the suspects involved in the traffic stop was taken into custody. Another suspect took off running from the stopped vehicle.
It is not believed there is any threat to the public at this time. Anyone with any details about this traffic stop, is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at
904.630.0500.
The initial investigation shows there is no connection between the suspects involved in the traffic stop and the suspect who fired shots at the officers.
