During the evening hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, survivors, colleagues, elected officials and local law enforcement partners gathered at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, to pay tribute to the law enforcement professionals who made the
ultimate sacrifice in service for this community.
During his address, Sheriff Waters reflected on the city's history and the sacrifices of the fallen and their families.
"Each of these officers wore a badge with a representation of this city over his heart," said Sheriff Waters. He went on to say, "Tonight, for their common passion and purpose, we remember them, we honor them, and we thank them even though our gratitude pales in comparison to the magnitude of their sacrifice."
The annual service also included a candlelight vigil, presentation of the proclamation from Mayor Donna Deegan, musical performance, and a poem reading.
