Officer-Involved Shooting in Jacksonville's Oceanway Area
December 30, 2025
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Sheriff T.K. Waters and Chief Alan Parker shared details about an officer-involved shooting. This happened on Ponce Boulevard off New Berlin Road around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025.

District 6 Task Force officers were looking for a suspect involved in a stolen car case and several business burglaries. Officers saw the suspect get into the passenger side of a car. Officers stopped the car, identified the suspect and took him into custody. Another officer approached the driver’s side to speak with the driver of the vehicle. The driver did not comply, and the driver and the officer began fighting. At one point during the fight, the driver pulled out a gun. The officer shot the driver in the head.

The driver has not been identified yet. He did not survive.

This is the 17th officer-involved shooting this year for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The officer who fired the shot is Officer Zachary Jennings.

The State Attorney’s Office is on scene, completing its investigation. Once its investigation is complete, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own investigation.
