Critical Incident Briefing for Officer-Involved Incident from November 1st
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is releasing details from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The details below are preliminary and may evolve with the investigation.
The State Attorney’s Office initially asked the agency not to release any body-worn camera footage to not compromise the investigation. The State Attorney’s Office has determined the officer did not violate the law in this incident, and their investigation is complete.
At 6:05 p.m., the JSO Communications Center received a call reporting a stolen black Kia Optima with a specific tag. Within minutes, the Communications Center received calls about a hit-and-run and a shooting close by where the Kia was stolen.
Details from the calls indicated the stolen Kia may have been involved in those incidents. This information was relayed over the District 1 radio. Similar messages were relayed over the District 5 and 6 radios.
At 6:27 p.m., a District 1 lieutenant told the Communications Center the vehicle involved in the shooting may be a Dodge Durango. This was only shared over the District 1 radio, where officers in other districts would not have heard.
A
be on the lookout (BOLO)
notification for the Kia was pushed out citywide. In the comments of the BOLO, the Kia was linked to the shooting and hit-and-run.
At 7:44 p.m., an officer saw the stolen Kia driving westbound on West 13th Street, turning north on Moncrief Road then west on MLK Jr. Parkway. The officer activated his lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the stolen Kia accelerated. The stolen Kia crashed into a marked patrol vehicle.
Knight, the passenger of the Kia Optima, took off running from the crash. Officer Cahill ran after Knight, yelling at him to show his hands. The officer fired multiple times, hitting Knight. Knight is in stable condition at a local hospital.
JSO will conduct an internal review to determine if the officer acted within policy.
