Public Assistance Needed as the Investigation into Robert Velleca's Death Continues
October 09, 2025
Last month, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Marine Unit responded to the Ortega River and found a man’s body floating in the water. Evidence was scarce, leaving what happened a mystery.

During the investigation, detectives quickly learned the man in the water was 36-year-old Robert Velleca. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Velleca’s death a homicide.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is investigating how Velleca died, but need the public's help. Anyone with information, is asked to please call 904.630.0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous, citizens can call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS to report.
