The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Cold Case Unit closed an investigation from nearly a decade ago this week with the arrest of 34-year-old Radariaus McGauley.
On Thursday, November 19, 2015, patrol officers were dispatched to a business on Edgewood Avenue in reference to an armed robbery and subsequent shooting. While investigating this crime, it was learned that one of the two suspects was shot while the store owner defended himself during the commission of the robbery. After both suspects fled the scene, 24-year-old Kurt Dean was dropped off at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, from which he ultimately died. The second suspect was not immediately identified.
Detectives immediately began working the case, but after thorough investigation, the case went cold.
Earlier this year, JSO's Cold Case detectives reviewed unsolved homicide cases and selected this case for further review. Additional interviews were conducted and a review of the collected evidence led to the identification of the outstanding suspect who participated in the robbery.
A warrant for his arrest was issued Tuesday, September 2, 2025. McGauley, who was already in custody on unrelated charges, was re-arrested for Felony Murder as a result of the role he played during the 2015 robbery and subsequent death of his accomplice.
This case highlights the commitment from the members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to solving violent crime and holding those responsible accountable for their actions. The professional relationship between JSO's detectives and the State Attorney’s Office was instrumental in the review of this case and the ability to bring closure and provide answers to those impacted by this crime.
