JACKSONVILLE, FL (March 15, 2017) - Today Sheriff Mike Williams announces the creation of a “Commission on Progress.” This group is the continuation of the Sheriff’s commitment to the community to follow-up on the recommendations of the Strategic Initiative’s four Task Forces.
“Our Strategic Initiative activity is moving on to its next phase, identifying our priorities from the many valuable recommendations,” said Sheriff Mike Williams. “I’ve asked these six executives and civic leaders to study the recommendations from the four task forces, as we did, and provide a community perspective on those that we decide to implement, and measure our success on those implementation activities,” he said. Chairing the group is The Rev. Canon Allison DeFoor, Episcopal Diocese of Florida, with Kevin Hyde, Partner, Foley & Lardner; Ann-Marie Knight, Administrator, Community Relations, Mayo Clinic; Audrey Moran, Sr. VP for Social Responsibility and Community Advocacy, Baptist Health; Benjamin Okafor, Ed. D, Criminal Justice Faculty, Edward Waters College; and Darnell Smith, Market President – North Florida Region, Florida Blue serving as members.
The four task forces: Training, Transparency, Community Engagement and Resources, met from October 2015 and handed in their final recommendations in late November 2016.
“I would like to thank these leaders for volunteering their time and talent to help us with this important effort to build and maintain trust in the community,” said Sheriff Mike Williams. “Along with the chairs and members of the Strategic Initiative, they are providing for our community a citizen-led dialogue with its law enforcement agency, with concrete and actionable ideas and implementation plans for growing community trust in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office,” the Sheriff said.
The Commission will meet on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Foley and Lardner, One Independent Drive, Suite 1300, Jacksonville, FL 32202 at Noon.
