Police Officer Malik Daricaud Discharged from Brooks Rehabilitation
April 26, 2024
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Police Officer Malik Daricaud was assisting fellow officers in apprehending a wanted suspect when he was shot by the individual.
One of the bullets hit the flashlight that Officer Daricaud was holding, and shrapnel ricocheted into his neck and shoulders, causing severe damage to his spinal cord.

For almost 400 days, Officer Daricaud has been fighting through intense pain and rehabilitation to recover from the injuries he sustained that fateful day. And though his fight is not over, the men and woman at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are incredibly proud and excited to hear that Officer Daricaud was discharged Thursday from Brooks Rehabilitation and headed home.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to his unwavering strength and determination – and the treatment he received while in the care of the remarkable individuals at Brooks Rehabilition.

Sheriff T.K. Waters was on-hand to congratulate Officer Daricaud and thank those who helped him through the toughest battle of his life. He had this to say, "To see where you [Malik} are right now, is an amazing blessing, that is nothing short of the miracle that you [Brooks' Staff] have done. The Lord's grace, His mercy, the Doctor and all of you all, absolutely amazing."
