Cold Case Spotlight: Unidentified Human Remains
October 16, 2023
Today, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released another "Cold Case Spotlight". This monthly feature spotlights a homicide that our agency has classified as a cold case.
Our hope is that the release may lead to information that will assist in identifying the victim, and ultimately, the suspect(s) and in turn help bring some closure to those impacted by these senseless crimes.

This month's spotlight is a case involving Unidentified Human Remains.

Information available at this time is as follows, in the afternoon hours of Friday, March 8, 2013, members of a work crew were clearing land near the 10300 block of Brightman Boulevard – near the dead end of St. Johns Bluff Road South. As they were clearing debris, a human skull was located in the area that had recently been woods. Detectives with JSO’s Homicide Team 4 responded to the scene and secured the site for forensic excavation. A search the following day yielded the vast majority of the remaining skeletal remains in the immediate area of where the skull had been located. The skeletal remains appeared as though they had been in the woods for an extended period of time.

The victim, identified as a male, is believed to have been dressed in a black Nike hat, black t-shirt, black sweatpants and white and black Nike shoes at the time of his death. Following an Autopsy and extensive investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was found to have sustained trauma to the head/skull and the case was subsequently ruled a Homicide.

The victim’s identity, race and age have yet to be determined, however, the M.E. was able to provide sketches of what the victim potentially looked like at the time of his death.

Anyone having any information on the victim’s identity or information related to this case is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or email us at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS or text **TIPS (star star 8477).
