The MCC Security Unit is comprised of the Classification, Community Projects, and Security and Technology functions. The Security Unit supports the mission and operation of the Montgomery Correctional Center with the proper classification of all incoming inmates. Their duties also include routine maintenance of all facility doors, locks, gates, keys, weapons and other emergency related items, as well as all computer related issues and equipment. The Security Unit is also vital in the City of Jacksonville’s quest to combat blight through the use of inmate work crews, who by way of hard labor, save the taxpayers of Duval County over $1,000,000 annually.

Classification Section

 Classification Unit
The primary focus of this section is to provide internal and external institutional security and the proper identification, designation and housing of inmates while they are incarcerated at MCC. The end goal of the Classification Section is to provide and maintain a safe and secure environment for the public, MCC staff, and the inmates incarcerated at this facility.

Community Projects

Community Projects
The Community Projects arm of the Security Unit continues to be a valuable asset to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and to the community it serves. Corrections staff and the inmates of MCC work in the Jacksonville area to help with special projects including the removal of urban blight, elimination of vagrant camps and beautification projects.

Community Outreach

Community Outreach
The MCC staff also partners with community members such as the Duval Extension Service – Urban Forestry Division. This is a group of retired volunteers who have completed a Master Gardener Program. These volunteers prune and trim city park trees twice each month in their spare time just as a way to “give back” to our great city. This generates large amounts of debris. Our inmates remove the debris, so the volunteers can enjoy their time beautifying our parks without having the burden of heavy lifting.

Security and Technology

 Security and Technology Unit Members
The MCC Security Unit is responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of all security gates and doors around the MCC compound as well as all computer related equipment. These items include drive gates, security doors, electronic card readers, computers, monitors, printers, software, and hardware related items. Many times our Security Unit is capable of correcting these issues on site without having to rely on outside sources.
